Environment & Relaxation
Large scale of choices
With holiday park Sole Mio as starting point, there are many interesting city trips possible by car. Cities like Milan, Lugano, Como, St. Moritz, Livigno and Sondrio are half hour up-to one hour and a half drive away. In your bungalow you will find a folder with various great tips on activities or places to visit.
Along the shores of the lake you will find many picturesque villages and beautiful villas with botanical gardens. In the immediate vicinity you can go (kite) surfing, sailing, (speed) boating, water skiing, parasailing, go-karting, swimming, fishing, biking or mountain biking. Mountain walks and mountain climbing can also be done directly from the park.
And these are just some ideas of spending your holiday on Sole Mio. Some other possibilities for an active holiday are:
Tennis
The tennis court next to Sole Mio (behind the football field) can be reserved in the kiosk at the port of Gera Lario.
Horse riding
In Colico you will find a riding school where you can rent horses per hour. As soon as you approach the buildings of Colico, you will see a yellow sign with the inscription “Passeggiato a cavallo / Trivio di Fuentes”. You follow this (partly unpaved) road to the riding school. The horses are saddled for you with so-called American saddles, after which you take a guided ride along the banks of the Mera, along the lake and then back through the meadows. Also suitable for beginners! Reservations in advance by telephone are required.
Racing bike
The neighbourhood of Gera Lario offers a variety of routes for racing bikes. Most of these routes contain climbing. So if you like biking take your bike with you.
As a “warming up” you turn left from the park. Before the bridge, take the road to the right towards Montemezzo. When you arrive in Montemezzo you can climb even further to Bugiallo or Montalto. You then have a good impression of what cycling in the mountains entails.
Other routes: If you want to go a little bit further, it is important to know that on the west side, Gera – Como, there are many (dark!) tunnels. You must wear reflective clothing.
The east side, Colico – Lecco, is less busy, because work traffic there can use the Superstrada. The total circumference of the lake is approx. 170 km.
On the Lecco – Bellaggio route you can make a detour to the church of the Madonna del Ghissallo, where your illustrious predecessors (including Merckx and Coppi) have left their bikes and jerseys.
Hiking
Lake Como offers hiking opportunities with every level of difficulty. For example, a 20 km route runs from Dascio to Dongo along the shores of the lake. There are numerous paths which you can walk to the mountain villages.
The Via Regina is an old route along the entire western shore of Lake Como. The Romans have restored the hiking trails of the Via Regina that are located halfway up the hills. The route from Gravedona to Domaso (approx. 1.5 hours) and the walk from Domaso to Gera Lario (approx. 2 hours and 15 minutes) are recommended.
You can also drive by car to one of the sometimes still medieval mountain villages and then view the village or start your hike from there. There are routes that run almost horizontally and are accessible for young and old or marked trails that go further into the mountains, which of course require more effort.
The historic connecting roads along Lake Como have been restored to their original state and are now marked as hiking trails. “Lago di Lario” is the old name of Lake Como. The road through the mountains is divided into four route sections and runs from northern Sorico to southern Cernobbio. For experienced hikers, the route is no problem, for less trained hikers the advice is to be extra careful and drink enough water and take frequent rests. The route is marked by red-white signs or red-white markings on trees / rocks. A detailed route description is available at the reception desk at the entrance of holiday park Sole Mio.
Walking to Montemezzo, above Gera Lario at bar / gelateria “Olmo” turn into the street “Via Palaretto” and walk upstairs between the houses and vineyards.
Going to San Bartolomeo by car. Turn left from the park. Immediately before the bridge, turn right towards Montemezzo. In a sharp turn, turn right towards Bugiallo. Turn right towards San Bartolomeo. Parking at the church (end of road). Here you will find various indicated walks.
Walk to the church of San Miro. Turn right from the park. About 200 meters after the church of Sorico turn left going up. Before the church of San Miro there is a healing well alongside the walking path. There is a ladle in the chapel with which one can water the “sore spots” and afterwards you may be rid of that long-lasting ailment forever…
Walk to Trezzone. From the park turn left, just after the bridge turn right towards Trezzone. Across the asphalt road to the church. Pass under the church through the vineyards to Trezzone.
